Started in 1991 as an effort to provide information and support to interracial families, people interested in this population, and the media. Also to complement the strong single race/ethnicity activities at various universities (see purposes).

Support of Graduate Students Doing Research
The Center has worked closely with graduate students across the country conducting research or writing their dissertation on various aspects of this topic. Specific institutions include Brown University, Cornell, Berkeley, UCLA, Denver University, Columbia, University of Michigan, Standford University, East Kentucky University, and Harvard.
The Center has also provided assistance to individual parents, grandparents, support groups, teachers, social workers and others working with multiracial and multiethnic children.
